Why Taylor Swift Is My Favorite Singer

Daily writing prompt
Who are your favorite artists?

My favorite artist is Taylor Swift.

Now, I know what you are thinking. Not another white girl obsessed with Taylor Swift…

To that, I can’t disagree, but hear me out. It will only take one minute of your time.

I promise.

Taylor Swift is an artist that I grew up with. Every single one of her albums represents an aspect of girlhood that I also experienced. When I listen to her music, it feels like I am listening to a friend and sometimes even an older sister. Her voice is comforting, her lyrics are reassuring, and her authenticity is a breath of fresh air.

Most importantly, I believe that what truly distinguishes her as an exceptional artist is her remarkable capacity to establish a profound connection with her audience through her lyrics. Her songwriting exhibits a level of sophistication, weaving intricate layers of meaning into her melodic narratives. When Taylor Swift weaves a tale, her listeners can readily empathize with her, as exemplified in tracks like “Betty” and “August.” In “Betty,” we gain insight into her experience of being left behind for a summer romance with another girl named August. Through this storytelling, listeners are not only drawn into Taylor’s perspective but also encouraged to empathize with August, experiencing the emotions from both sides of the narrative.

To stay on track and respect your time, I’ve provided a selection of quotes from my favorite Taylor Swift albums below. I hope you’ll find them as enjoyable as I do.

How can a person know everything at eighteen, but nothing at twenty-two? And will you still want me, when I’m nothing new?
